Operation REGAIN, the Police Mobilisation Plan for Yorkshire and the Humber, received official support with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the Chief Constable of each of the four forces of Yorkshire and the Humber on April 23, 2009.
Whilst it has been widely acknowledged that ad-hoc support has been given to neighbouring forces in the past, the MoU signifies the terms of reference for formal support pledged by the four forces, in the event of a major incident.
REGAIN is an acronym for ‘Regional Aid in Numbers’ and the aim is to provide “The ready ability of the police services of Yorkshire and the Humber to respond effectively together, in fast time, to operational challenges in all the protective service areas thereby complementing the Police National Mobilisation Plan.”
The REGAIN project and the completion of the document represents a key milestone towards the four forces reaching a formal agreement and ‘Closing the Gap’ in protective services and responding to major incidents.
