As the process of joint working is constantly evolving as new ideas present themselves, the milestones and timescales are relatively fluid. However, there are some work streams that should be completed by the end of year one (April 2010). These are as follows.
Complete a legal, practical and resilient HR Employment Framework that minimises risk for the forces, staff and region managed by South Yorkshire Police as the lead force.
Appoint a sergeant to manage and oversee the testing and review of the regional mobilisation plan that will confirm “the ready ability of the police services of Yorkshire and the Humber to respond effectively together, in fast time, to operational challenges in all the protective service areas thereby complementing the Police National Mobilisation Plan.”
A clear timetable of operational activities to be completed by April 2010.
Build upon the success of harmonised system of driver training across all forces and identify other areas of training that could benefit from a collaborative approach.
By September 2009, we will have amassed enough performance data and key performance indicators to create a meaningful baseline on which to build, monitor and evaluate the future performance of each individual workstream.
Operation Odyssey is the umbrella name for all the regional operational units. With a focus on cross border, and serious and organised crime Operation Odyssey provides specialist intelligence and investigative support to the local forces of Yorkshire and the Humber.
We launched the brand in September 2010 and Operation Odyssey provides a key reference point in the region for national law enforcement agencies and other regions. The formation of Operation Odyssey has allowed the Regional Operational Teams to develop formal links with other law enforcement partners that would not have been possible individually. These links are beneficial to us all and we will seek to build and strengthen these relationships in the future.
Organised crime drives the lower level crime that damages our local communities, and the aim of Operation Odyssey is to coordinate intelligence and operational activity to maximise the impact against Organised Crime Groups and the threat they pose.
DCS Martyn Bates launches Operation Odyssey.
