Responsible for operational command of the Regional Intelligence Unit, Regional Crime units, Regional Roads policing units, Regional Asset Recovery team, Special Operations Unit, Regional Programme Team, for building protective services and for delivering the Efficiency and Productivity strategy. In his substantive role as ACC with South Yorkshire Police he was responsible for Personnel, Corporate Communications, Criminal Justice Administration and Offender Management, incorporating Drugs Intervention, supporting the Chief Constable as a member of the Senior Command Team in running the Force.
Mark has over 26 years experience as a police officer and has served with West Yorkshire Police, where he was last Acting ACC (Serious and Organised Crime), having held a range of operational postings including Commander of Keighley and later Wakefield Division. He holds extensive command experience of firearms incident, advanced public order policing including commanding the policing response to the Bradford Riots in 2001, and he also commanded the multi agency emergency response to the floods that affected South Yorkshire in 2007, ensuring cross organisational learning from the largest peacetime evacuation the area has seen.
He currently works actively for the Association of Chief Police Officers’ Children & Young People Business Area, leading on performance issues and is a member of the ACPO Futures group.
Mark holds an MBA (distinction) from the University of Leeds, a Diploma in Police Management and a Diploma in Criminology from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. He is also a graduate of the Bradford, Wakefield and South Yorkshire Common Purpose programmes. A keen triathlete who competes in the UK and abroad, he particularly enjoys activity holidays with his family.
